Prelutsky is my favorite children’s poet so far; Billy Collins
is my favorite poet for adults. Both of them do the same thing:
they write about the fabulous and the ordinary in the same, accessible
way, using whatever language it takes.
If the poem needs an easy word – and it’s the perfect
word – that’s the one they choose. If the poem needs
a word I need to look up in a dictionary, that’s okay. I trust
them.
And I learn a word.
Just like children are learning all the time.
These reviews are all like that. Most of these books aren’t
fresh off the shelves. In fact, some of them are even out of print.
But they’re all well-loved, and child-tested. Some of them,
even, were child-tested by me as a kid, and are being tested in
a second round by my own.
They’ll make great birthday gifts, holiday gifts, shower
gifts, or additions to your library.
They’re books I have, or want to have. Some of them are by
people I know, but I wouldn’t recommend the book if I didn’t
also love it.
These are all my opinions, but feel free to write me if you want
to hear more – or if you want to argue. I’m always up
for a good argument.
Even more, write if you have a suggestion for the list!
Thanks. <.>
