Fizzyfunnyfuzzy

For Sophie

Sophie’s stuck. She’s in a fix.
In New South Wales, in her Grade Six,
Their lessons are in poetry.
So now they choose: her mates, and she.

They pick a poem, stand, and read it
Right out loud, for all to see it
Dreadful! I’d be terrified.
Why, I might even run and hide.

The very thought just makes me weak.
I’d stand, a-quivering, voice a-squeak.
My face would pale. My hair would gray.
I’d beg for any other way.

Perhaps I might disguise as Mum
Tell headmaster “Oh! She can’t come
To school at all. She’s ill, you see,
With Anti-Poetitis-try.”

But Sophie? She’s a brave one, she.
She reached right out and wrote to me.
She wanted one to make you laugh.
So I wrote this on her behalf.
