Fold-A-Critter

Go back to try this at home

examples: bee and worm

These critters are cute and fun. Easy, too. The only limit is your imagination. Make bees, worms, butterflies, or anything else you want. You can use the folded paper to make legs, then use thicker folded paper to make bodies and mouths... there's no end to what you can create with this simple technique.
two strips of paper at right angles

To begin, cut two strips of contrasting color paper (here I used construction paper) and tape the ends together at right angles.

Since I want to make a bee, I used yellow and black. You can choose any colors you want.

begin folding strips

Start folding the paper over itself, flap over flap, until the whole thing looks sort of like an accordion.

Tape the ends shut, too.

draw a face

On another piece of paper, draw a face for your critter. You can use anything to do this - a pen, a pencil, a crayon, a marker, a colored pencil, you name it!

If you want to get REALLY FANCY, you can collect other things to decorate your critter with, too, like pipe cleaners, pom poms, feathers, beads, and anything else you might have lying around.
