Best accompanied with SPECIFIC instructions for improvement - and delivered via the "sandwich" method: a positive comment, then the "negative," then finish with an upbeat, positive comment, e.g.:

"Try again, John. You're great at ELA. Maybe you can use those skills to help you with your word problems here in math class - think of them as stories. You're good at comprehension."
